Of the Sea
From a poem by Emily Dickinson-
We are of the sea,
Have tides like the sea,
Tears of saltwater
And sea streamed hair.
Carved in oak with added silver foil.
Orchard
It was carved in cherry wood which seemed appropriate for the message.
Colour addes with oil so the grain is not obscured has lifted the piece nicely.
Staircase Panel
This panel was commissioned for a small cottage staircase.
The brief was that it should have vines with birds and insects included.
It is carved in oak pierced through to keep it light in appearance and to let light through.

"Amy" Winehouse
I was inspired to carve this image of Amy after producing a wild image of her in clay. I had used a real leaf to imprint in the clay the patterns that produce her beehive hair style.
The carving is about 24" tall from a yew log. The variations in colour are between the white sapwood. almost orange heart wood and pinks around knots.
